Wrencote House is one
of the finest examples of an early eighteenth
century town house and is world famous as a
product of the golden age of English craftsmen.
Pevsner calls it "the finest house in Croydon"
and dates it to 1715-20 or earlier. The name
derives from local tradition that Sir Christopher
Wren had a hand in its design, although there is
no known evidence to support the idea that he
was the architect. It is more likely that the
house was built to a design by a pupil of Sir
Christopher Wren.
stpsoft is located in the extended North
wing of Wrencote House.
